The Lighthouse
Two lighthouse keepers try to maintain their sanity while living on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s.
After watching The Lighthouse i can remember only one masterpiece Stanley Kubrick's The Shinning.
This modern psychological horror masterpiece is a film which captures your imagination and keeps you unsettled throughout the film. Its gripping, thrilling , scary sometimes comedic psycho horror film. This is a film which a person experiences. The viewers are questioned in every scene of the film about how the subconscious mind overpowers a person's sanity.
The cinematography of the film is the best I've seen all year.with Brilliant lighting a use of locations for wide shots. The B/W format of the movie paired with 4:3 or a aspect ratio of 1.19:1 doesn't let the viewers lose any of their attention. It brings the feeling of claustrophobia to our minds. The production design of the film was fantastic. The Musical score is excellent and complements to the visuals. The sound of the lighthouse Foghorn throughout the movie is haunting yet seductive and infectious .
Both Robert Pattinson and William Dafoe's performances are very strong and unsettling like the film. It was clear the moment both actors appeared on the screen that this was going to be something special. To put it simply, this is the result of everyone behind the film being on the same page and doing their absolute best. It’s not something where one can pick his favorite aspect, it’s all overwhelmingly good. It was clear throughout the film that this was not the end of this experience, with sounds and images so specific and beautiful that we don’t see them leaving our heads anytime soon. It was clear the moment the credits rolled that this is going to go down as a classic.
